Red: 0-degree spray, ideal for hard-to-remove dirt and oil. Yellow: 15-degree spray, optimal for stripping a deck or siding. Green: 25-degree spray, ideal for cleaning dirt and debris from cars, driveways or concrete. White: 40-degree spray, perfect for areas near windows or light fixtures.

Concrete and asphalt require more cleaning power. You'll want to use the turbo nozzle on the 1600 PSI for hard-to-clean driveways, sidewalks, and patios as well as brick paving. For wood decks and painted surfaces, switch to the gentler 40-degree nozzle.

For pressure washing a car, stick with a 40-degree nozzle (typically white, per industry standards), though a more powerful 25-degree (green) nozzle can be useful for blasting wheels, tires, and the undercarriage. Apply soap using either the 65-degree black nozzle or the foam cannon.

If you're using a foam cannon, fill it with a car wash soap that has been formulated specifically for this purpose and connect it to your pressure washer using the quick disconnect. We recommend M.A.X. Power Car Wash, which was recently reformulated to be foam-cannon-ready, or Cherry Snow Foam.

For most cars, a psi between 1200 and 2200 is recommended. This range provides enough cleaning power to remove dirt and grime without damaging the car's paint or delicate surfaces.

Dilute 1-measure of Simple Green with 10-measures of ambient water (Example: In a clean bucket, add 2 cups of Simple Green to 1 gallon + 1 quart of water). Clean in sections using a soft bristle brush.

How much PSI to clean concrete? ›

Concrete cleaning calls for powerful pressure washers featuring high pressure levels of 3000 PSI. However, if you will be using the power cleaner to maintain a range of surfaces in addition to concrete, choose one with adjustable pressure levels and set it to about 3000 PSI when you need to clean concrete.

You may be wondering "Can you adjust the pressure on a power washer." Some, but not all, machines have a pressure-regulating control, and you can adjust the fan width on all models. The most important adjustment, however, is the distance of the tip from the surface you're cleaning.

Degrees of Cleaning

Without water to cool and lubricate it, the pump will work harder than it should, causing it to wear down quickly. This can happen even with just a few seconds of running the pressure washer without the water being turned on. However, the pump is not the only part that takes damage.

At the Home Depot, we consider up to 1899 PSI light duty for vehicles or outdoor furniture. Medium duty, which is recommended for fences or patios, is between 1900 - 2799 PSI. Heavy duty is 2800+ PSI, which is recommended for driveways or to strip paint.

Vinyl siding can withstand a powerful gas pressure washer (2,500-3,000 psi). Aluminum, stucco or soft-grain wood homes will do better with a less powerful washer (about 1,200-1,500 psi).

MEDIUM-DUTY pressure washers in the 1,800 to 2,000 PSI range can tackle bigger projects like large SUV's, RV's, siding and fencing, decks, garage floors and driveways.

Too much pressure (generally anything more than 1,900 PSI) can damage the paint job on your vehicle. If you're determined to do so, keep the following tips in mind. In addition to using the right pressure (1,000 to 1,200 PSI), make sure you use the correct nozzle.

The red-colored nozzle is the most powerful and often used for concrete cleaning. This should be the least used nozzle of all, but it does have its place in power washing with it's small, very concentrated stream of water.

These feature PSI ranging from 1500 to 1900 and would be enough to get rid of dirt and mild stains. This is the safest pressure washer PSI rating for all surfaces, but it isn't ideal for getting rid of tough stains.
